A Dream on Hold
11 years ago we bought a little hobby farm on the outskirts of town. To say that the house wasn't my dream home would be an understatement. Although the property is gorgeous, this 100 year old house lacks insulation and you can feel the wind coming through the walls in the winter. We're out numbered 100 to 1 to bats. There aren't any closets in the entire house except a little cubby under the stairs in our bedroom.
We've always planned to remodel the house and finally decided tearing it down and rebuilding it would be the best course. Two years ago we started preparing for this. I took the Financial Peace class so I could get our finances in order to afford this new house. We bought a camper so we could live in that when we tore the house down. Last fall we started fixing up our horse barn to make it a livable space and to store the stuff from our house. And over the winter we even hired an architect to design the new house. Finally, We were all set. I was going to get my dream house.
And then God spoke. He laid a huge word on our hearts. WAIT.
As passionate as we are about a better living situation, it's only going to be temporary. But when Chris met Jesus at The Mill and was baptized last summer, that's eternal. And when others meet Jesus, that's eternal. This life is very short when compared to eternity. Our church and our community needs this building more than we need this house.
So we plan to put our building project on hold so that we can contribute sacrificially to this building project.
